VMware ESX:
The hypervisor most relevant to a data center is VMware’s ESXi, which is a Type 1 or “bare metal” hypervisor that takes the place of the first-level operating system that would otherwise interface with a computer’s hardware. It replaced ESX, which was a full hypervisor which utilized more host computer resources than vSphere. VMware has discontinued ESX.
VMware virtualise physical computers with its primary product of a hypervisor. A hypervisor, also known as a virtual machine monitor, is a thin software layer that resides between the host computer and the guest operating systems and manages the access of the host’s resources by the guests. The guest OS asks for resources from the hypervisor.
The hypervisor isolates each guest OS and thus allows each of them to run independently of the others. If one guest OS has an application crash, become unresponsive, or get a virus, it will not negatively impact the other operating systems on the host.
VMware is a reputable server based hypervisor vendor; however, it also offers products that perform desktop operating system virtualization. This section describes some of that software and how it operates.
However, VMware has provided an intermediate solution of the third type located in between the server virtualization mentioned above, VDI—the virtual desktop integration. VDI virtualizes the desktop operating system on the server.

VMware vSphere is the enterprise virtualization software suite by VMware, which makes up of the ESXi, a type- 1 hypervisor, and the vCenter Server that is used to manage multiple hypervisors.
VSphere is available in three configurations: They include: Standard, Enterprise Class, and Platinum. Both have policies in storage of virtual machines, live workload migration and come with integrated security measures. The additional features for the more expensive packages are such as Virtual Machine level encryption, Container integration and management, Load balancing and centralized network. Platinum alone can generate automatic responses to security threats and compatibility with other security operations tools.
VSphere has many components, and one of them is vCenter Server. This is the management part of the vSphere. It enables you to perform the administration of virtual machine installations in a large pool of host servers. It configures virtual machines to hosts, assigns resources for virtual machines, and measures resource utilization in hosts. As for user privileges, they can be managed using this tool according to the user’s own policies.
VMware NSX is a type of network virtualization product which lets you create and manage your IT network topologically in software. Some of the network capabilities like switching, routing, traffic load balancing, and firewalls can also be integrated and implemented on hypervisors that are hosted on x86 computers. Instead of having to manually set various pieces of hardware in the different interfaces, you can manage these functions in one screen and in addition, you can apply policies in software to perform network functions. Namely, the network part of VMware’s SDDC is the same as applies virtualization to networking, software, and computing functions.
The product supports your data center, your private cloud, and public hosted clouds, whether from the vendor or a third party. This makes it easier for your network to support cloud-native apps that run in container environments, and are made up of microservices.
VMware vSAN is one of the solutions that fall under the storage virtualization family of VMware products. This forms a software interface between the Virtual Machines and the physical storage devices. This software is within the ESXi hypervisor family and presents the storage devices as a single storage pool that is shareable by machines in that cluster.
With VMware vSAN, your VMs can utilize storage of any computer in the cluster instead of the specific computer which might get exhausted of storage space. It also saves the physical computer’s disk space if the VMs hosting on the specific physical computer do not consume the disk space. Other hosts on which run VMs may also use this storage.

Under the VMware Cloud brand, VMware delivers several products and services.
